Versace x ZAYN – Is It a Hit or Miss?

Zayn Malik, former member of the smash hit pop band, One Direction, split ways with the group back in 2015. Since the debut of his solo career, he has released many hit singles as well as a chart topping debut album titled “ZAYN.” Most recently, he has collaborated with mega star, Taylor Swift on a song titled “I Don’t Want To Live Forever” which was in promotion for the highly anticipated movie, “Fifty Shades Darker.” Zayn also has recently collaborated with PARTYNEXTDOOR on their smash hit, “Still Got Time” which was raved about from critics everywhere including Justin Bieber.

Following a break up with Little Mix singer, Perrie Edwards, Malik found himself wandering into the arms of supermodel Gigi Hadid who also happens to be one of the greatest socialites of our generation as well as a fashion designer. As expected, Hadid has all of the hook ups including Tommy Hilfiger and Donatella Versace.

Malik showed tremendous support for his girlfriend as she released her own collection that was paired in collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger… The collection was called TOMMY X GIGI. Malik was found with Hadid and her sister Bella, days before the collections debut on the runway.

Malik’s success however, does not end there. Malik has been appointed to co-design the new capsule collection for Versus by Versace. The collection is said to carry both women’s and men’s apparel. The collection dropped this month ( May 2017 ) and a portion of the commission will be donated to charity.

Donatella Versace is the figure who appointed Malik to co-design the collection and has spoken fondly of the twenty-three year old by stating “he is a rockstar” and believes he is a proper fit due to the fact that rock is in Versace’s DNA. Donatella also added that Zayn is the voice of the new generation and needs to allow Malik to reach out to a new audience so that Versace can also reach said demographic. Donatella also did not forget to mention that the ZAYN X VERSUS collection will be “real fashion.”

Malik is also following behind in the iconic M.I.A who had previously released her own VERSUS Capsule collection along with other celebrities with their own clothing line such as Gigi Hadid, Zendaya Coleman, Rihanna, Kylie Jenner and the Kardashian trio.

Malik however, has not forgotten about his girlfriend during the production of his collection and has in fact assigned her to many important roles such as the director of interviews and the director of his overall campaign.

In an interview in aims to promote Malik’s new collection, Hadid held an iPhone while interviewing her boyfriend and asking simple questions in attempt to advertise for his collection. The couple seemed smitten and very in love based off of the very short clip that was added to Instagram.

Hadid even shot all of the upcoming advertisements for Malik’s new collection which can be seen down below.

It hasn’t just been rainbows and butterflies for the new couple, however. They in fact faced lots of backlash upon releasing the advertisements and fans were furious by how “dependant” the two were on each other. Fans claim that the two “need to do their own thing.”

Many fans also are infuriated by the fact that Malik would allow an untrained photographer such as Gigi coordinate the entire advertising campaign simply due to the fact that she is his girlfriend. Fans also attacked Hadid and stated that “not only is she stealing all of the modelling jobs.. She also is now after all of the jobs including photography as well.”

As for Zayn’s collection itself, it is most definitely a pass from me. The collection is very avant-garde which I applause but is not suitable for every day wear… Especially not for the average every day citizen with the hefty price tag Versace has dropped on their pieces.
