WHAT IS THIS CRAZY THING AND WHAT CAN IT DO?
Being on a boat is great, but sometimes you want something more. You want to dunk your big toe in and actually feel the splash of the waves as you go along.
Maybe you don’t own a speedboat, but you want to ride in something that makes you feel as if you have got one.
With a towable toy like the Sportsstuff Super Mable, you have just that. A bit of fun, when the weather is good enough to scoot along the ocean waves, or the lake, depending on what your fancy is.
Hell, you don’t even have to actually go anywhere. Plenty of people simply enjoy lounging on this, completely stationary.
It is up to you whether you want the thrill of the ride, or simply cruise along at a more leisurely pace.
SUPER MABLE BRINGS IT!
Seating one to three riders, the Super Mable can take up to 510 pounds in weight (officially), and should see you through more than one season, with a bit of luck.
A big hit with the kids, for obvious reasons, this should have both children and adults alike queuing up to get on your floating party station this summer.
If you are serious about buying one of these, Beach Baby has the facts and figures for your deliberation.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BLOW UP?
This is an important question. You do not want to die from having a coronary simply trying to get this thing from in the box, to floating on the water.
The happy news is that, using an electric pump, it is pretty quick to go from deflated to fully pumped, in only a few minutes.
There are two inflation points on this float. You will also want a pump that can deflate as well, for ease of use.
You will probably want to keep an air pump handy aboard your vessel, for any top up pumping that might occur. By the way, this would be the same for any inflatable towable craft.
CAN I FLY SOLO?
Other questions that are asked frequently include ‘can a single person ride this, or do there have to be three riders’?
The answer is, that it is completely fine to have just one person riding this. Why not? The dynamics of the ride will change though.
This thing can zip through the waves pretty quickly, so be warned… if you’re flying solo, you might really be ‘flying’, and if you are the kind of person who gets motion sickness, bouncing 5 feet off every wave may not be as fun as it sounds!
Of course, you can always slow the boat down…but who wants to do that?!
HOW FAST CAN IT GO?
So, what is the speed restriction advisable with this towable? Although it doesn’t sound very fast, the advised speed is 20 mph maximum – lowered down to 15 mph if there are minors on board.
Rest assured, this will seem plenty fast enough when the waves are lapping at you, or spraying you ,and you are zigzagging all over the place.
Obviously, all the riders need to wear a lifejacket, and the driver needs to be fully competent to operate this.
It is also advised that there is a “lookout” on board the towing vessel, to make sure they keep an eye on all the passengers.
This is a pretty sturdy vessel, but it doesn’t mean it’s unflappable or unsinkable, so do take care when operating.
DOES THIS COME WITH A TOW ROPE?
Sadly, the answer to this is ‘no’. The manual does however, advise on the type of tow rope that should be used – one with a tensile strength of 3350 pounds, and a recommended length of between fifty to sixty five feet.
There are two tow points on this inflatable, situated at both the front and the rear. These also make good anchor points as well, should you wish to use it for more leisurely flotation purposes.
HOW SMOOTH IS THE RIDE?
The ride aboard the Super Mable is as exciting, or as sedate as you wish it to be, but one thing Beach Baby has learned, is that it should be quite comfortable.
It has EVA foam seating pads, and plenty of grab handles, with knuckle guards, to keep you hanging on, literally.
The side walls are well cushioned, and this is as comfy a place as you could find to experience life on the waves. Of course, if you go too fast, anything could happen…
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
There are one or two things to be aware of here. Despite the dimensions being listed, it might not be apparent that this inflatable is HUGE when inflated.
Also, it is probably best to deflate this when it’s not in use, and make sure it is stored carefully away from heat and sunlight.
Common sense should be used while pulling ‘Mable’ i.e.. no sharp turns!
Try and make sure the product is properly inflated at all times of use, but not over inflated, and the weight distribution is even throughout. So if there’s only one rider, they should sit in the middle.
ARE THERE ANY ISSUES WITH THE SUPER MABLE?
We give this Super Mable towable a 4.6 overall, so this is a pretty good indicator of a decent, but not completely infallible, product.
The main gripes have been concerning problems with the product losing air, and holes in the tubing. Our research shows that this has happened, although rarely.
Overall, Beach Baby thinks this is a fun toy for the summer, and can’t wait to climb aboard!
