On Monday, May 2nd of 2017, the infamous Met Gala held another thriving ball that was action packed with more celebrities than you could ever dream of. This years theme just happened to be “avant-garde” which held a vast amount of dressing opportunities for its attendees.
This years guest list was filled with many notable names such as Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Abel Tesfaye, Zoe Kravitz, Rihanna, Hailey Baldwin, Sofia Richie, Anna Wintour and many more! However, one of the best parts of any event such as the Met Gala, is coming together to rate the best and worst looks of the night.
With my limited fashion knowledge, I will be putting together a list of the most tragic ensembles, that I believe are eye sores or are simply just not fit for the Met Gala.
#1 – Kendall Jenner
Strutting in a gown that was part of La Perla Haute Couture Collection designed by Creative Director Julia Haart, Kendall set out to make the best dressed list in this risky ensemble. She however, fell flat, wearing her crystal embroidered gown. The dress that took over 160 hours to make, in fact, ended up just looking like a failed art project.
Many criticized the dress for “looking like every other dress Jenner has worn.” But many were criticizing the leggy model on the similarities her Met Gala dress had to the one that she had worn on the red carpet for the VSFS in 2015.
#2 – Gigi Hadid
Gigi fell short in her looks for the Met Gala in 2016 and 2017 after her legendary 2015 gown. This year, she was sporting a champagne Tommy Hilfiger dress. The twenty-two year old claimed she had collaborated with Hilfiger in designing the dress.
She stated that the dress consisted of her favourite textures. The dress, however, fell short due to its boxiness and lack of flow. Critics also questioned Hadid on her choice of black fishnets under such an elegant dress. The bleached brows were also not a cute look Ms. Hadid.
#3 – Cara Delevingne
Usually I can excuse and stand for Delevingne’s fashion choices, but this year’s look was a definite no-no. She came in a crystallized jumpsuit which I would fen for.. except for the fact that the entire ensemble looked like something she had planned for last year’s gala which’s theme was – Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.”
The model looked exceptional in her silver Chanel piece, but it looked too galactic which took away from the avant-garde element.
So there you have it! The best of the worst of the 2017 Met Gala fashion fails
