CAN BABIES SURF? WATCH THESE VIDEOS AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!

A few years ago, Beach Baby had never even thought we would have heard the words “babies” and “surfing” being used together, but here we are, and now the internet is full to bursting point with the cuteness overload of babies surfing.

Check these videos out to feel amazed, and overwhelmed by a tidal wave of cuteness!

Video #1 – Baby’s First Time Surfing

This eleven month old seems to be taking it in his stride.  Although perhaps, he should be wearing some sort of flotation device.

We’re also slightly concerned at how far out they seem to be, judging by the shots of the horizon, and how deep the waters are … potentially not the safest of ideas, but mega cute all the same, and this water baby seems accomplished to boot!

Yes, babies can definitely tear up the waves, just like their parents it seems!

Video #2 – Surfing Baby In Australia

Also a pro in the making, at less than a year old, we have this little surfette from down under, where it seems they start them young!

At least this time the child seems to have something resembling safety gear on, and the water is clearly shallow enough, for daddy to stand up comfortably.

Also the sea seems calm, and the baby is clearly enjoying herself immensely.

To be honest, if you are going to learn how to surf, this is pretty much how you should start out.

Video #3 – Sunny Mare

This one is even younger, at only ten months old.

Filmed on location in ‘el Caribe’, at least this little lady has got her priorities right, in fetching bright orange arm bands and floats.

They don’t seem to have gone too far out, and Dad is right behind her.  Thing is, she is not getting to see so much, as there’s a bit of spray hitting her face.

She doesn’t seem to mind much though.

Overload of cute ahoy, as they both paddle back to the shore, and plenty of fetching shots of baby and board.

Video #4 – Kai Kai Alcala

From the Philippines, and not technically a baby, is this amazing little dude.

Only six years old, and three feet tall, this lad surfs like a pro (and more besides) alongside his sporty family.

If you check out other videos of his, you can see that he’s a regular little pro already, and well seasoned in surf contests beyond his tender years.

Beach Baby was slightly nervous watching some of these clips of such a young child surfing so independently.

He could probably give us some tips though, as he already seems to have gained some mastery over the ocean currents.

Video #5 – Hilo

The next one is the sprog of a tandem surf champion, Rico Leroy.

Aged only one year, this baby shows no fear out on the waves, although we do wish that they were wearing some sort of flotation aid.

This clip shows baby’s first time surfing in Hawaii.  Mega cute!  She seems like a natural!

Video #6 – 2 Year Old Surfing With Dad

Firmly in her Dad’s arms is another first timer, this is little Kyla.  At the ripe old age of two, she seems to be getting on a bit, compared to some of her contemporaries!

Since this video is dated 2010, we would have high expectations of her being some sort of world champion by now.

For a first attempt, she seems not at all phased, although she does look rather pleased to be back on dry land at the end!

Video #7 – Eliana

Adorable Eliana from Hawaii knows what she’s doing – but Beach Baby still thinks that surfing babies, or even Old Age Pensioners should probably be wearing some sort of floats, when out on the open seas, no matter how accomplished they are.

And she is quite capable, as this montage charts a compendium of her first surfing competitions (where she won fifth and first place), and shows surfing hot spots of Waiohai Beach, amongst other places.

It will be no surprise to anyone to learn that her Daddy is a surf instructor, and the video montage is charmingly set off against the dulcet tones of Rage Against The Machine for extra kudos.

Video #8 – Roberson Brothers

What’s more cute than a solo kid on a surf board – well three kids on surf boards!

This trio of terror, the Roberson brothers, aged between four and six, will melt your heart, and strike fear into it at the same time, with dare devil antics both on and off the waves.

Video #9 – Father – Son Bodyboarding

With over 80,000 views so far, this one is proving popular on YouTube right now.

Short, but sweet, at only nine months, this is pretty young to be taking an infant out on the open waves, and although we’re sure he’s safe, we do echo what some other commentators are saying about the lack of safety equipment on the child.

Some of those waves do look a tad lively for a nine month old, just saying, like.

Video #10 – Baby Seal Surprises Surfers

Another baby… but just not a human one this time.  In this brief clip, some surfers are going about their usual business on the waves, when up pops this little fella, and offers his ‘seal of approval’.

We’re not quite sure how old the seal pup is, but it is of course, masses of cuteness. (And not too bad at surfing either!)

Video #11 – 22 Month Old Toddler Surfing With Dad

Third time is lucky for this little lady, at only twenty two months old, she is surfing with her daddy at Bolsa Chica State Beach, California.

After a first outing at the tender age of eighteen months, she still seems to be finding her sea legs, but we are at least relieved to see that this infant is wearing a life jacket.

Video #12 – Baby’s First Surfing Lesson

So… you’re seven months old, and crawling seems like an uphill challenge… what’s a girl to do?  Well, learn surfboarding tricks from her father of course.

Fortunately, the whole of this adorable clip is on the safety of dry land, as daddy tries to impart his wisdom to his little daughter, while a pissed off feline looks on imperiously.

TEACH YOUR BABY TO SURF?

So you’ve seen a few YouTube videos, and you thought you would head out onto the ocean to catch some waves with your baby or toddler…? Is this really a good idea?

Here are some tips from surfers and parents about the basics of kids on surf boards.

DO

  • GET A LIFE JACKET/ PRESERVER
  • GET A SOFT BOARD FOR YOUR LITTLE LEARNER
  • PRACTICE ON DRY LAND FIRST
  • GET YOUR CHILD USED TO THE SEA FIRST
  • START IN WARM WATERS IF POSSIBLE
  • GO IN GRADUALLY, INCREASING THEIR CONFIDENCE SLOWLY
  • MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS A CONFIDENT SWIMMER

DON’T

  • START TEACHING SURFING UNTIL 3 YEARS OLD
  • GO FOR UNBROKEN SWELLS OF WATER TO START WITH
